Protection of results

The OTRI at the Miguel Hernandez University is responsible for performing all the procedures intended to protect the results generated by UMH personnel in their research activities. This protection is previous to and necessary for the transfer of these results to the socioeconomic sectors capable of exploiting them, contributing as such to the generation of wealth.

Depending upon the nature of the results obtained, one or another form of protection must be chosen, distinguishing basically between two types of property rights: intellectual property and copyright.

Industrial property is understood as the set of exclusive rights protecting innovative activity manifested in new products, procedures and designs, as well as commercial activity through exclusive identification of the products and services offered to the market.

Copyright consists of the set of moral and economic rights that ascribe exclusive rights to its creator.
