5.Communication of possible international patent extension

Nine months after the application filing, the researcher is informed that in three months (12 months since the application) the patent priority deadline expires, allowing an International Extension of patent protection, and maintaining the first national filing date of the patent.

The researcher must send Annex III to the OTRI communicating to the president of the Delegate Committee his/her interest in pursuing international expansion.

The OTRI will examine the documentation received and if it is necessary to complete it, the OTRI will contact with the main researcher. Revised OTRI documentation will be taken to the Governing Council Delegate Committee on matters of intellectual property and copyright, which will decide upon the advisability and feasibility in carrying out international extension or not.

The contact researcher will be notified about the resolution adopted via the OTRI.
